President Trump says Iran is faking Strait of Hormuz attacks to raise oil prices before the midterms. The claim is disputed.

Transcript of the video edition

President Trump says Iran is making up attacks on ships to push up oil prices before the midterms. Here’s the claim, and the other side.

Trump posted that Iran’s attacks in the Strait of Hormuz are fake. He said Iran wants higher oil prices before the November election.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said it hit vessels. Maritime monitors recorded more than two dozen attacks on ships in October, a record. Oil jumped about four percent to about one hundred thirteen dollars a barrel.

The claim is disputed and unverified. Neither side’s account is independently confirmed in these reports. Watch the strait, and the oil price, over the next few days.
