Transcript of the video edition

The White House says First Lady Melania Trump brokered a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. It covers one occupied city.

The city is Oleshky, on the Dnipro River in the Kherson region. Russia seized it on the first day of the invasion. Before the war, about twenty-four thousand people lived there.

Today it has no power, heat or running water. The plan: clear the mines, bring in aid, then let people leave for Ukraine or Russia.

Moscow and Kyiv both confirmed it. Supporters call it proof that quiet diplomacy works. But no one has said how the pause will be monitored, and Ukraine’s negotiator calls it extremely challenging.

One city, one pause. We will report whether it holds.
