Transcript of the video edition

The Federal Reserve announces its rate decision on Wednesday, October twenty-eighth. Here’s what most forecasts expect.

Most forecasts expect the Fed to hold rates steady at three point seven five to four percent. Markets put the odds of a pause at about eighty-three to ninety percent, depending on the source.

The bigger question is December. Markets expect another hike then, because inflation is at three point seven percent. The Fed raised rates in September.

Fed chair Kevin Warsh has not previewed the decision. Watch who disagrees, and what the Fed says about December. That tells you more than the pause itself.
